Are you looking for love? People often do in many different places these days. Some go to dating websites like Zoosk, Match, Black People Meet, JDate (for Jewish singles), Single Parent Meet, Christian Mingle, or even OurTime for the senior population. Others go to bars, nightclubs, social clubs or even churches to see if they can find the right relationship, the right fit for them. Most people are looking for love, somewhere, and are looking to be loved, cared for, protected, provided for, and/or fulfilled in life.
But let me ask you a question: Where do you think Almighty God goes “looking for love?”
Or let me put it another way: Where does the One who has everything look to pour out His affections, His favor, His care, His protection, His provision, His amazing grace?
Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Accept my teachings and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit, and you will find rest for your lives. The burden that I ask you to accept is easy; the load I give you to carry is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30 ncv
Jesus does not go looking for love in the best
Jesus does not go to the prettiest girl on the block, or to the guy who has it all together in life. When He wants to pour out His love on someone, He often goes to ordinary people like you and me. He looks for those who are tired, weary, lonely and broke. He goes to those who need a lot of help. He does not come to us with a bunch of different conditions that we have to meet. We do not need to measure up to anyone’s standards. We just need to go to Him with our neediness, brokenness, and yes, even our ugliness, with our sin, and the mess we have gotten ourselves into. Yet, we receive His amazing grace, His great love for us.
Wow! What a friend we have in Jesus! Will you reach out to Him, receive His tender mercies, His amazing grace, His great love, His great power toward us who believe?
When Almighty God is looking for love, see where He chooses to go:
But there is something I’m looking for:
“These are the people I am pleased with
“These are the ones I look on with favor:
“I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts,
who are humble and contrite in spirit,
a person simple and plain,
who fear my word
reverently responsive to what I say.
